Stellar Shows Holiday Spirit, Donates to Community Pedscare

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (December 18, 2008) – Stellar, an international design, engineering, construction and mechanical services firm, is playing Santa this week,  delivering over 130 gifts to children and their families at Community PedsCare, a pediatric hospice care program for local children with life-threatening conditions. Stellar employees ”adopted” a child in the program, a sibling or a parent and bought items on their wish list. Employees dropped the gifts off at the Community PedsCare offices to help make the holidays a little brighter for the children and their families.
A program of Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, in collaboration with Wolfson Children's Hospital, Nemours Children's Clinic and University of Florida, Community PedsCare offers individualized support, comfort and care to children and their families. Hospice services are employed when a child has a life expectancy of less than six months and has discontinued aggressive curative treatment.
“These children, their siblings, and their parents have gone through so much, and our hearts go out to them,” said Ali Korman, Director of Community Relations at Stellar. “We are delighted to send a little holiday spirit their way.”
The Stellar employees collected everything from toys, to books, to video games for dropoff. “The entire families that are involved with Community PedsCare have truly touched our hearts,” said Korman. “This donation is very special.”

Children with a progressive illness or sudden injury have a multitude of needs and their families are often facing difficult decisions and stresses. The Community PedsCare team is there for the whole family. Counseling and spiritual support help parents and siblings deal with the strain.
