Rare “Hole in One” Creates Excitement at Stellar Foundation Golf Classic
Jacksonville, Fla. - (April 14, 2009) – It was a once-in-a-lifetime moment for Jacksonville resident Mike Rolewicz. Rolewicz, the president of On Call Staffing, was taking part in the annual Stellar Foundation Golf Classic at the St. Johns Golf and Country Club on April 3rd, 2009, when he shot an incredible “hole in one” on Hole 13 of the course. Rolewicz’s shot cleared 173 yards of water. His amazing feat thrilled the tournament participants, and Rolewicz won a Mercedes C class lease, which was generously donated by Brumos Mercedes and Mercedes of Orange Park.
“It was very surreal,” says Rolewicz, a first-time participant in the Classic. “I knew I had a good shot, but wasn’t expecting a hole in one. People just started going crazy. They sent three eyewitnesses from Stellar to confirm the shot was good, and they gave me the thumbs up. I knew I had to call my wife to tell her I landed her a new car for the next two years!’
The excitement over Rolewicz’s feat is bringing extra attention to the purpose for the event, which is to support local nonprofit organizations. This year Stellar has chosen Jacksonville charities Hope Haven Children’s Clinic and Family Center and Community PedsCare to be the major recipients of the tournament proceeds.
Hope Haven provides educational, psychological and related therapeutic services for children, families and young adults with special needs. The Stellar Foundation’s donation will fund a handicap-accessible playground at the clinic. Community PedsCare is the pediatric hospice and palliative care program of Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, and money raised for this charity will fund its overall mission of providing medical, emotional and spiritual support to an average of 100 babies and children per day. The Golf Classic was enormously successful in spite of a challenging economic climate for the construction industry. The event raised a total of $50,000, with $20,000 apiece going to each charity, and the remaining monies allocated to other local nonprofit groups to be determined.
“Our generous vendors and partners we work with every day at job sites across the country all stepped up to participate in the Foundation Classic,” said Ali Korman, Director of Public Relations and Community Affairs for Stellar. “The money we donated is a direct result of their generosity and dedication to giving back to the community. The Classic was a fantastic event, and it is so exciting to have a rare “hole in one” moment on the course!”
