Community Connections Receives Grant from Publix Supermarkets Charities
Jacksonville, Florida – October 20, 2010
Community Connections of Jacksonville has been selected to receive a grant of $7,500 from Publix Supermarkets Charities.
“Publix is a long-time friend of our agency. They continue to be committed to improving the lives of the homeless women and children that our agency serves,” said Pat Hannan, President/CEO of Community Connections.
The new grant will support the agency’s Child Development Center, located in the Florence N. Davis Center for Women and Children. The Davis Center has been serving Jacksonville as a shelter since 1979. Thousands of homeless women have been able to return to work, thanks to the Center’s children’s services. The donation from Publix Supermarkets Charities will provide scholarships for children living in downtown shelters.
Community Connections is a 99-year-old non-profit agency that provides housing and services for homeless and at-risk families, after-school programs for low-income children, and the Healthy Families Jacksonville parent education program.
“Our Founder George Jenkins instilled in all Publix associates the spirit of service and connecting with communities in which we serve. Striving for a healthier and more vibrant community was always his goal and aligning ourselves with organizations like Community Connections solidifies this philosophy” said Dwaine Stevens media and community relations manager for Publix Super Markets Inc.
The spirit of giving
George Jenkins founded Publix with the spirit of giving in mind. He was once asked, "If you hadn't given away so much, how much do you think you would be worth today?" His response, without hesitation: "Probably nothing."
