Nothing Matters More Than Safety.
From architectural design and engineering through final construction, nothing matters more to Stellar than safety.
Our concern with safety encompasses everyone from our employees to our vendors, subcontractors, communities, clients and our clients’ customers. At Stellar, a job specific safety plan is developed for each and every project. Safety audits are performed on a regular basis and we initiate and maintain all the permits and programs necessary to comply with or exceed the requirements of the:
- Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)
- Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
- Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
- United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)
- Agency for Healthcare Administration (AHCA)
- Other state and federal regulatory agencies with which our customers comply
We are proud of our long and outstanding record of safety and stand ready to share additional details with you.
An Outstanding Track Record
Stellar’s safety record is significantly better than national averages, sometimes by more than half, according to widely used objective measures of past safety performance. The two industry benchmarks used to measure safety performance are the experience modification rate (EMR), which is applied to workers' compensation premiums, and the OSHA recordable injury and illness incidence rates.
EMR
The insurance industry developed experience rating systems as an equitable means of determining premiums for workers' compensation insurance. Ratings are based on comparisons of firms doing similar types of work and the average expected performance in each work classification. Lower rates, meaning that fewer or less severe accidents occurred, result in lower insurance costs.
Currently, Stellar’s rate is 0.70, a significantly lower rate than the national average of 1.0.
OSHA Incidence Rates
Each year, the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics publishes ratings based on recordable safety incidents (defined by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration). This rate, called the incident rate, is based on 200,000 man-hours worked. The calculation is:
(Number of recordable injuries X 200,000) / number of man-hours worked = incident rate)
In 2009 (the latest available data), the national average for non-residential building contractors was 3.6 incidents for every 200,000 man-hours. Stellar’s was 1.53, less than half the national average.
Industry Recognition
Our safety record has not gone unnoticed. We have won numerous safety awards, including the construction industry's safety benchmark award. Stellar has recently was honored with the Associated Builders and Contractors' (ABC) STEP Diamond level of achievement, the highest offered. We have also been awarded the ABC’s National Safety Merit Award, which recognizes companies whose safety performance and programs are exemplary and exhibit a lasting commitment to jobsite safety. For four consecutive years, we have secured ABC's Accredited Quality Contractor certification, which recognizes corporate responsibility best practices in four areas, including safety.
